Wally the Waster is a remote-controlled robotic dustbin developed to improve waste collection and disposal in indoor environments such as classrooms, offices, canteens, and laboratories. Built on the ESP32 microcontroller, the system integrates ultrasonic sensors, motor drivers, and servo mechanisms to enable smooth navigation and efficient waste handling. Unlike autonomous robots that rely on object recognition, Wally operates through a manual remote-control interface, ensuring simplicity, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Two separate dustbin chambers for plastic waste and paper waste. This innovation directly supports SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, by encouraging sustainable waste management practices and reducing environmental impact. Through its design, Wally demonstrates how accessible robotics can foster responsible consumption behaviours, promote recycling awareness, and contribute to cleaner, safer environments. As both a practical and educational prototype, Wally the Waster highlights the role of technology in advancing sustainability while providing valuable learning opportunities in robotics and environmental responsibility.
