Diabetic-related chronic wounds are increasing rapidly in Malaysia, creating an urgent need for affordable, effective, and Halal-certified wound care. At the same time, invasive pleco fish (ikan bandaraya) threaten local river ecosystems but remain an underutilized resource. BioPlecoHeal addresses both challenges by converting pleco skin into a sustainable biofilm plaster. The skin is ethically collected, purified, and processed to extract Type I collagen using eco-friendly enzymatic hydrolysis before being incorporated into a bioactive hydrogel dressing. The resulting plaster promotes infection control and tissue regeneration while providing a low-cost, halal-compliant alternative, improving healthcare access and supporting environmental restoration through scientific innovation.
