Abstract
Dehydration is a common issue among students and teachers due to busy schedules and the tendency to forget to drink water regularly. This project introduces a SMWAT-BOBA : Smart Water Bottle Bag developed using a micro:bit microcontroller to encourage healthy hydration habits through simple visual and audio notifications. The system is activated by pressing the ON button, after which an LED matrix displays a smiling face to indicate normal operation while the buzzer remains silent. After 2 hours (represented by 1 minute), the LED matrix changes to a sad face and the buzzer emits a repeating beep for five seconds, looping up to three times as a reminder to drink water. The reminder can be stopped immediately by pressing the STOP button, which turns off the buzzer and returns the LED matrix to the smiling face display. This notification cycle repeats for another 2 hours (represented by minute) before restarting automatically.
The project was designed using the Engineering Design Process (EDP), beginning with problem identification, idea generation, prototype development, programming, testing, and evaluation. By integrating simple micro:bit programming, an LED matrix display, push buttons and a buzzer, the system provides an interactive and user-friendly solution for promoting consistent water consumption. The innovation also supports STEM education by exposing students to electronics, programming, computational thinking and problem-solving skills through hands-on learning. Overall, the Smart Water Bottle Reminder System demonstrates how simple embedded technology can be applied to improve daily health practices while serving as an effective educational innovation in teaching and learning.
