Abstract

Science education continues to face significant challenges as many students struggle to understand abstract concepts presented through conventional text-based instruction. This often leads to reduced motivation, increased cognitive load, and negative perceptions towards science learning. To address these issues, this study introduces an innovative educational science comic that integrates structured storytelling, scientifically accurate visual illustrations, and step-by-step concept explanations to enhance students' conceptual understanding and learning engagement.

Unlike conventional learning materials, the comic transforms complex scientific concepts into meaningful visual narratives that are easier to comprehend while maintaining scientific accuracy. The integration of sequential storytelling with detailed visual explanations encourages active learning, stimulates curiosity, and increases students' intrinsic motivation to explore scientific knowledge. Furthermore, the narrative-based approach promotes long-term memory retention by connecting scientific concepts with memorable storylines, allowing learners to recall information more effectively over time.

The innovation also reduces cognitive overload and learning anxiety by simplifying complex information into manageable visual segments. This learner-centred approach enables students to process information more efficiently, creating a positive and less intimidating learning experience. As a result, students are able to understand scientific concepts with greater confidence and reduced mental stress.

This educational comic offers a scalable, low-cost, and technology-enhanced teaching resource that can be implemented in both classroom and self-directed learning environments. By combining visual communication, educational storytelling, and evidence-based learning principles, the innovation contributes to improving science literacy, strengthening conceptual mastery, fostering higher-order thinking skills, and nurturing lifelong interest in science. The proposed approach aligns with the goals of 21st-century education by promoting inclusive, engaging, and meaningful learning experiences for diverse student populations.
