TypeAgricultural activities today heavily depend on chemical fertilizers, which may harm soil quality and the environment over time. At the same time, seafood shell waste and coconut waste are often thrown away without proper use. This project introduces Blue Pellets, an eco-friendly biodegradable fertilizer made from shrimp and crab shell powder, cocoa peat, starch binder, and neem powder. The main objective of this innovation is to transform waste materials into a useful natural fertilizer that supports healthy plant growth while reducing environmental pollution.
The seafood shells provide calcium and chitin, which help strengthen plants and improve natural pest resistance. Cocoa peat helps retain moisture and improves soil aeration, while neem powder acts as a natural antifungal and pest-control agent. The materials were mixed, shaped into pellet form, and dried naturally under sunlight. Plant growth observations were carried out for four weeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the fertilizer. The results showed continuous improvement in plant height and leaf growth. Plant height increased from 9 cm in Week 1 to 28 cm in Week 4, while leaf growth increased from 2 leaves to 5 leaves.
To further validate the product, laboratory testing was conducted and confirmed the presence of important nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and nitrogen. The innovation stands out because it combines seafood shell waste and cocoa peat in a compact pellet form, which is rarely found in commercial fertilizers. Blue Pellets promotes sustainable agriculture, supports waste reduction, and provides a low-cost, eco-friendly solution for home gardeners and small farmers.
