The AuthentiTag project addresses the widespread issue of counterfeit clothing and fraud in the apparel aftermarket, which is often exacerbated by traditional clothing tags that are easily cloned or forged. The objective of this project is to develop an NFC-based product tagging system and a dedicated mobile application that partners with established brands to replace conventional tags with secure NFC technology. The system is implemented by embedding NFC tags into garments, allowing users to scan the tags with a mobile app to access secure, cloud-based product insights such as production dates, pricing, and item history and to seamlessly transfer ownership to other users. The expected outcome is instant, reliable product authentication and enhanced tracking of garment lifecycles. This project contributes to the fashion industry by providing a secure, user-friendly tool that guarantees product authenticity, thereby protecting consumer trust and securing the second-hand and bundle markets from counterfeits.
