Chemistry practical lessons often face challenges such as safety risks, limited laboratory
access, expensive chemicals, and insufficient opportunities for repeated experimentation.
These limitations can reduce students’ understanding and interest in learning abstract
chemical concepts. To address these issues, Mine-ChemLab-4U (Minecraft Chemistry
Laboratory for You) was developed as a virtual chemistry experiment simulation platform
using Minecraft Education. The project aims to provide a safe, interactive, accessible, and
affordable learning environment while improving students’ understanding of the Chemical
Properties of Group 1 Elements. The development process involved problem identification,
needs analysis, idea generation, design planning, prototype development, simulation testing,
observation, and continuous improvement. The current prototype enables students to
conduct virtual chemistry experiments, observe reactions of Group 1 elements with water,
and repeat experiments without laboratory risks or resource limitations. Preliminary survey
results indicate that students face difficulties in understanding this topic and are receptive to
virtual learning as an alternative. Mine-ChemLab-4U promotes active learning, enhances
student engagement, and supports STEM education by integrating game-based learning
with chemistry concepts. Overall, Mine-ChemLab-4U demonstrates strong potential as an
innovative educational tool that improves chemistry learning while supporting digital
transformation in education and contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4
(Quality Education), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and 10 (Reduced
Inequalities).
