EcoSorb Pad is aninnovation developed to address environmental problems caused by excessive household cooking oil waste and the overuse of plastic-based absorbent materials. The widespread reliance on disposable tissue paper and synthetic sponges contributes to non-biodegradable waste accumulation, while improper disposal of oil residue into drainage systems threatens water quality and ecosystem sustainability. This project supports Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), which promotes efficient resource use and waste reduction. The main objective of this innovation is to design and develop a biodegradable oil-absorbing pad using coconut husk fibre, an abundant agricultural by-product. The coconut husk fibres were processed and enhanced using natural binding agents such as beeswax, cornstarch, and baking soda to improve structural stability and oil absorption efficiency. The developed EcoSorb Pad functions as a sustainable alternative for absorbing excess oil from food surfaces. Performance testing was conducted by comparing oil absorption capacity between EcoSorb Pad and conventional kitchen tissue. Results indicate that the innovation demonstrates promising absorption effectiveness while offering an environmentally friendly disposal option. The expected impact of this product includes reducing household plastic waste, promoting sustainable consumption practices, increasing environmental awareness, and encouraging the use of natural waste materials in daily life. In conclusion, EcoSorb Pad presents a practical green innovation solution for managing kitchen oil residue sustainably.
