The SONIC-G Device is an assistive wearable innovation developed to improve the mobility, safety, and independence of individuals with visual impairments. The device integrates ultrasonic sensing technology with an Arduino Nano microcontroller to detect nearby obstacles and provide immediate feedback through a buzzer, enabling users to navigate their surroundings more confidently. Designed as a lightweight, affordable, and user-friendly smart eyewear solution, SONIC-G addresses the limitations of conventional mobility aids by offering real-time obstacle detection while maintaining ease of use. The innovation incorporates readily available electronic components, making it cost-effective and suitable for wider community adoption. Beyond enhancing accessibility, the device supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Good Health and Well-being, Reduced Inequalities, and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
