Abstract

Anisuzila Binti Nasarudin

The inability to directly observe microorganisms presents a significant challenge for Year 6 pupils in developing a sound conceptual understanding of microbiology. This limitation frequently results in misconceptions, weak visualisation of microbial life processes, and difficulties in connecting theoretical knowledge with authentic realworld contexts. To addresss these challenges, the Micro Quest Adventure Box was developed as an innovative ,student -centered learning intervention thet integrates four complementary instructional components: interactive instructional videos, QR code-enabled microscopic visualisations, a hands-on MIcro-LAb Kit,and a gamified board game. The innovation is grounded in constructivist learning principles, experiential learning, and digital pedagogy, fostering active engagement, inquiry-based learning ,and meaningful knowledge construction.

The effectiveness of the innovation was evaluated using a pre-test and post -test design. Students participated in a sequence of collaborative learning activities involving multimedia exploration , QR-assisted content discovery ,experimental investigations, and educational gameplay.  Findings demonstrated a substantial improvement in learning outcomes, with the oveall pass rate increasing from 74.5% to 85.1%, while the number of students achieving full marks tripled from 5 to 15. Beyond academic achievement, the innovation positively enhanced  students' mastery levels in Classroom -Based Assessment (PBD), intrinsic motivation, self- directed learning scientific inquiry skills, collaboration, and communication competencies.

The innovation has received strong institutional support from the school administration, the Kuala Langat District Education Office (PPD) , fellow educators, and highereducation partners. In addition to its successful classroom implementation, the Micro Quest Adventure Box  has attracted interest from other schools, leading to invitations for professional knowledge -sharing sessions on best practices. These recognitions demonstrate the innovation's scalability, transferability, and potential to strengthen science education through technology -enhanced and experiential learning approaches across diverse educational settings.
