This project is an innovative interactive story game titled Pak Belalang: Riddle Master. It is designed as a digital teaching tool for children aged 7 and above, with the aim of introducing and preserving classic Malay folk humour through multimedia storytelling. The story is adapted from the folk tale Pak Belalang Menjawab Teka-Teki, where the main character, Pak Belalang, must solve riddles to help his king protect his kingdom. In the game, players follow Pak Belalang’s journey, solve riddles, make choices, and play mini-games, making the learning experience both fun and interactive.
The project was developed using Figma, with illustrations designed in Adobe Illustrator. To make the visuals appealing to children, the game applies a chibi art style combined with Malay traditional design elements, creating a look that feels playful, fun, and reflecting cultural heritage. There is also background music and voiceover added to make this innovative interactive story game more interesting. This multimedia approach not only attracts young audiences who are used to colourful and lively characters, but also strengthens their connection to cultural heritage by creating an engaging storytelling experience.
The main goal of this project is to show that folk humour can be more than entertainment. It can serve as an educational tool in digital interactive design, teaching values, improving problem-solving skills, and sparking interest in traditional stories. Hence by merging classic Malay folk tales with modern multimedia interactivity, this project brings new life to heritage stories while making them engaging and educational for the younger generation.
