HARVEISH A/L THANABALAN SJKT MASAI
Many children, especially those with special needs, find it difficult to use regular toothpaste. The strong flavours, foamy texture, and unpleasant smell can be overwhelming for them. At SJKT Masai, we noticed a worrying trend among some students were avoiding school simply because they did not want to brush their teeth. Realizing this issue, our Sparkle Team set out to create a solution that is simple, safe, and suitable for children with sensory challenges. That is how Evergreen Whitening Tooth Powder was developed. Our objective was to create a gentle, natural, and eco-friendly tooth powder that encourages daily brushing while supporting oral health. We used safe and effective ingredients such as baking soda, calcium carbonate, activated charcoal, clove powder, xylitol, and most importantly, neem and turmeric grown in our own school garden. Neem helps fight bacteria, while turmeric acts as a natural anti-inflammatory and whitening agent. Every ingredient was chosen for its ability to clean, protect, and soothe sensitive mouths. This tooth powder has a smooth texture and mild taste, making it easier for children to use without discomfort. Since it comes in powder form, there is no need for plastic tubes. This reduces plastic waste and promotes sustainable, Lestari living practices. It is easy to prepare, affordable, and accessible for all families. The money earned from selling the tooth powder is used to buy more turmeric plants and seeds, helping expand our school garden and support environmental education. Feedback from parents has been very positive. Children are now brushing more often, showing cleaner teeth, and feeling more confident about coming to school. In conclusion, Evergreen Whitening Tooth Powder is more than just a product—it is a step towards better hygiene, inclusive education, and a greener future.
